Conceptually, how does Gonadorelin differ from hCG in the HPG axis? (education, not protocol)

I'm trying to build an accurate mental model, purely conceptually. Gonadorelin is essentially GnRH, so it acts high up — at the pituitary — prompting LH/FSH release. hCG, on the other hand, mimics LH and acts down at the gonads directly. Do I have that mapping right?

If so, is the interesting research distinction that Gonadorelin works 'through' the pituitary (and thus depends on the natural feedback machinery) whereas hCG bypasses it? Not asking about anyone's regimen — I just want the physiology framed correctly so I understand what I read.

That's how I've come to understand it too. Gonadorelin = GnRH analog acting at the pituitary, so it's upstream and rides the natural pulsatile system; hCG = LH mimic acting directly on the testes/ovaries, downstream. The pulsatility point is the big one — GnRH signaling is naturally rhythmic, and steady exposure can actually suppress rather than stimulate, which is the basis for how GnRH agonists get used in the opposite direction clinically.
