Semax vs Selank: how do you actually think about the difference?

These two get lumped together constantly because they both come out of Russian research and both get described as 'nootropic' peptides, but mechanistically they seem quite different. I wanted a thread to untangle how people conceptualize them, linked to both Library pages.

My understanding: Semax is an ACTH fragment associated with BDNF modulation and gets framed more around focus and neuroprotection, while Selank is derived from tuftsin and gets framed more around anxiety and immune modulation. Most of the clinical work is Russian and not always easy to evaluate against Western trial standards.

Curious how others draw the line, and where you think the evidence is weakest.

Your mechanistic sketch matches how I hold them. The big caveat is exactly the one you raised: most of the human literature is Russian-language, often older, and frequently not to the methodological standard people assume when they cite 'clinical studies.' That does not make it worthless, but it means confidence should be lower than the enthusiasm usually is.

I would also gently push back on treating either as a well-characterized nootropic. 'Peptide that showed some cognitive or anxiolytic signal in limited trials' is more honest than the way they get marketed.

Good thread, leaving it up as a model for how to compare two peptides without drifting into 'which should I take.' Reminder to everyone that experience reports are fine here as personal anecdote, but keep protocol and dosing talk out of it.
