An antioxidant tripeptide made naturally by the body and widely sold as a supplement for skin lightening, 'detox', and anti-aging. Its endogenous biology is well established, but human evidence for the marketed benefits is weak to mixed.

Glutathione (GSH) is a tripeptide of glutamate, cysteine, and glycine that the body synthesizes in nearly every cell, where it is the most abundant intracellular thiol antioxidant. It is central to redox balance and detoxification. The same molecule is separately marketed β as oral capsules, topicals, and intravenous infusions β for skin lightening and general 'wellness', which is a different question from its established internal biology.
Mixed and generally weak for the popular claims. Some randomized trials show that oral glutathione can raise body glutathione stores over months, while others found no change over shorter periods β results vary with dose, duration, and formulation.
