GHK-Cu, also known as copper tripeptide-1 or simply "copper peptide," is a naturally occurring copper-binding tripeptide (glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine complexed with copper) that is used extensively as an active ingredient in topical skincare formulations. It occurs naturally in human plasma, saliva and urine, and its concentration is understood to decline with age. Because of its ability to bind and shuttle copper, an essential trace element involved in skin remodelling, GHK-Cu has been studied and marketed primarily as a cosmetic agent applied to the skin rather than as a systemic drug.
