Something that bugs me in a lot of sleep threads: people say 'my sleep quality improved' but rarely say what they mean. So I wanted to open a methods discussion — how do you separate a real change from a good week or a placebo bump?
For me the useful distinctions have been: total time asleep vs. how rested I feel, number of awakenings, and morning grogginess, which don't always move together. Wearable 'deep sleep' numbers I take with a big grain of salt — consumer devices estimate sleep stages and can be pretty off compared to actual polysomnography.
I'm deliberately not tying this to any specific compound because the measurement problem exists regardless of what you're evaluating. If you can't measure it reliably you can't attribute a change to anything.
What's worked for you for keeping yourself honest? Sleep diaries, subjective 1–10 ratings, something else?
