The gap between BPC-157 study amounts and what people report anecdotally

Something I keep running into: the BPC-157 literature is almost entirely rodent work, and when you try to line up the amounts used in those studies against what people describe in anecdotal write-ups online, the two worlds barely connect. The animal studies report per-kg figures in controlled conditions, and the anecdotes are just... numbers with no denominator.

I'm not asking anyone what to do. I'm trying to understand methodologically why this comparison is so hard. Is it purely the allometric scaling problem, or is it also that the endpoints in the animal studies (specific tissue healing markers) don't map onto what people are self-reporting?

Curious how others here think about reconciling preclinical numbers with anecdote when there's essentially no human trial data in between.

It's both problems, and they compound. Naive mg/kg conversion between species is already unreliable, and on top of that the rodent studies are measuring histology and controlled injury models — endpoints you literally cannot observe in an anecdote. So even if the scaling were perfect, you'd be comparing a tissue-section outcome to "my elbow feels better," which is not the same variable.

My honest takeaway is that for this compound the preclinical numbers just don't license any human inference. It's genuinely thin evidence, and I think it's healthier to say that plainly than to pretend a conversion factor bridges it.

"Comparing a tissue-section outcome to my elbow feels better" — yeah, that lands. I think I was hoping the scaling math was the only obstacle because that at least feels solvable. The endpoint mismatch is the harder wall.

Well put by both of you. I'd add that placebo and regression-to-the-mean do a lot of work in soft-tissue anecdotes specifically — minor injuries improve on their own, and people naturally start something new when they're at their worst, so the timing biases the story. None of that means the compound does nothing; it means the anecdote can't distinguish it from doing nothing. Anyone weighing this for their own health should really be having that conversation with a clinician, not a forum.
